THE END BIT

·         Attending a wedding for the first time, a little girl whispered to her mother, 'Why is the bride dressed in white?'' The mother replied, 'Because white is the colour of happiness and today is the happiest day of her life.' The child thought about this for a moment then said, 'So why is the groom wearing black?'

·         A little girl, dressed in her Sunday best, was running as fast as she could, trying not to be late for Sunday School. As she ran she prayed, 'Dear Lord, please don't let me be late! Dear Lord, please don't let me be late!'
While she was running and praying, she tripped on a curb and fell, getting her clothes dirty and tearing her dress. She got up, brushed herself down, and started running again! As she ran she again began to pray, 'Dear Lord, please don't let me be late...but please don't shove me either!'

·         An elderly woman died recently. Having never married, she requested no male pallbearers. In her handwritten instructions for her memorial service, she wrote, 'They wouldn't take me out while I was alive, I don't want them to take me out when I'm dead.'

·         A police recruit was asked during the exam, 'What would you do if you had to arrest your own mother?' He answered, 'Call for backup.'

·         A Sunday School teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to 'Honour your father and your mother,' she asked, 'Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?' Without missing a beat, one little boy answered, 'Thou shalt not kill.'

Special update from Elim International Missions

MARYAM AND MARZIEH

Wonderful news – Maryam and Marzieh have been acquitted of all charges by the Iranian judicial authorities. However, they were warned that any future Christian activity in Iran would be seriously dealt with. On Saturday 22nd May they left Iran and arrived safely in another country.

Maryam and Marzieh are eager to thank Christians who have been praying for them. “We are most grateful to everyone who prayed for us,” Marzieh said, “I have no doubt that God heard the prayers of His people.”  Maryam added, “I believe our arrest, imprisonment and subsequent release were in the timing and plan of God, and it was all for His glory. But the prayers of people encouraged and sustained us throughout this ordeal.”

Thank you to everyone who prayed for Maryam and Marzieh. Please continue to pray for them in the days ahead to fully recover and to continue in fruitful ministry.

Your prayers really do make a different

Please feel free to copy and distribute Prayerline

This year Elim’s World Missions Sunday is on 27th June when special events are held to raise funds for Missions. There are over 1 billion, yes 1 billion, people in the world who never have enough to eat. They struggle to survive. They go hungry every day.So our challenge to you is to see how much you can save on your weekly food shopping for one week in June and send that money to Elim Missions. Are you up for it?If you are, then send the money you save to Elim Missions (cheques payable to Elim International Missions to address below) or give to your Missions Co-ordinator in your church to send in.Thank you, thank you, thank you – on behalf of all the people this will help.

THE END BIT

  • My young grandson called the other day to wish me Happy Birthday. He asked me how old I was, and I told him, 68. My grandson was quiet for a moment, and then he asked, "Did you start at 1?"
  • After putting her grandchildren to bed, a grandmother changed into old slacks and a droopy blouse and proceeded to wash her hair. As she heard the children getting more and more rambunctious, her patience grew thin. Finally, she threw a towel around her head and stormed into their room, putting them back to bed with stern warnings. As she left the room, she heard the three-year-old say with a trembling voice, "Who was THAT?"
  • My grandson was visiting one day when he asked, "Grandma, do you know how you and God are alike?" I mentally polished my halo and I said, "No, how are we alike?'' "You're both old," he replied.
  • When my grandson asked me how old I was, I teasingly replied, "I'm not sure." "Look in your underwear, Grandpa," he advised, "mine says I'm 4 to 6."
  • A 6-year-old was asked where his grandma lived. "Oh," he said, "she lives at the airport, and when we want her, we just go and get her. Then, when we're done having her visit, we take her back to the airport."

 ECONOMIC DOWNTURN

In line with the majority of organisations in the charity sector, we are seeing a noticeable downturn in giving to Missions.  May we please ask you, if you are holding any monies, to send them in now.  You might not know that we rely 100% on your giving, we don’t receive anything from Elim central funds.  We do appreciate that many people are finding things difficult, but if you are able to give, then we humbly ask you to do so in order that we can continue to do the job we have been given: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20).

Our office closes at lunchtime on Wednesday 23rd December and reopens at 8.30 am on Monday 4th January 2010.

FACTAIDS is now the biggest single cause of death worldwide among children under the age of five.

 ONE-LINERS

  • Some minds are like concrete, thoroughly mixed up and permanently set
  • A lot of church members who are singing ‘Standing on the Promises’ are just sitting on the premises
  • Don’t put a question mark where God puts a full stop
  • God doesn’t call the qualified – He qualifies the called
  • God loves everyone, but probably prefers ‘fruit of the Spirit’ over a ‘religious nut’!
  • He who angers you, controls you
  • The will of God never takes you to where the grace of God will not protect you
  • We don’t change the message, the message changes us
  • The good Lord didn’t create anything without a purpose, but mosquitoes come close!
AND FINALLY:
  • Good King Wenceslas phoned for a pizza.  The salesgirl asked him, “Do you want your usual? Deep pan, crisp and even?
  • Someone sent me a huge pile of snow, then rang me and asked, “Did you get my drift?”
  • “Mum, can I have a cat for Christmas?” “No son, you’ll have turkey like the rest of us.”
  • And remember, there has only been one Christmas – the rest are anniversaries.
